Certified Fire Investigator - Washington State, IFSAC

Pre-requisites

  • Must be at least age 18 and have a high school diploma or state-recognized equivalent; and
  • Currently active as a fire investigator or have investigation duties assigned; and
  • Proof of fire investigation training meeting NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921; and
  • Proof of background check conducted by a local law enforcement jurisdiction or currently be criminal justice commissioned; and
  • Recommendation of the agency having jurisdiction or employing company; and
  • Hazardous Material Awareness training to NFPA 472, 2-2.1 to 2-2.3 4.2.1 Detecting the Presenceof Hazardous Materials, and 4.2.3 Surveying the Hazardous Materials Incident from a Safe Location

Recommended Pre-requisite Training:

  • Fire Investigator training to NFPA 1033, 2003 edition

Currency Requirements:

  • Current IAAI or NAFI, and Washington State Fire Investigator IFSAC certificate; and
  • Documentation of meeting current applicable NFPA standards; OR
  • Washington State Fire Investigator IFSAC certification; and
  • Active as a fire investigator; and
  • Documentation of 80 hours continuing education in current applicable NFPA standards the last 5 years, which includes current NFPA 921; and
  • Recommendation of the agency having jurisdiction or employing company
